It needs a new ribbon, but all the keys work. There is no number one key but a small EL substitutes for one on these models. The typewriter has obvious signs of minor rust in various places, a slight indent on the top plate above the smith corona label, is missing a screw on a plate under the top row of keys (as shown) and the fabric cover on the case is torn up on the edges from several decades of portable use.
