  1. Why They Killed

By Jean F. Blashfield. "The Secret Motivations of America's Most Notorious Killers"; "Their twisted minds. Their private demons. Their hidden reasons for committing the most unspeakable crimes..." Includes Manson, Berkowitz, Bundy, and others among the, uh, usual suspects (and a few that aren't as usual, like Dan White). A Popular Library PB in decent shape: some edgewear; a faintly cracked spine, but reinforced with library tape and sits straight. Toned pages with occasional underlining, nothing all that intrusive. A solid reading or research copy.

  2. Whispers of Romance, Threats of Death

By Carol Cook and Ted Schwarz. "When Carol Cook befriends Gilbert Escobedo who is aiding the police task force search for a serial rapist who victimized Carol and 200 others, she does not suspect the dangerous criminal being sought is also the police department's favorite ride-along companion." - librarything.com This paperback is in passable shape -- a cracked spine (which is nevertheless sitting straight), a split repaired at the top with scotch tape, page toning. But this'll get the job done.

  6. Cruel Doubt

By Joe McGinniss. Cruel Doubt is "the D&D one" and I've reread it several times; something about the attorney's investigator calling Chris Pritchard a "silly little son-of-a-bitch" is so satisfying. The bogeyman of Dungeons & Dragons, less so, but...that was the eighties for you. Some shelfwear to this paperback, a couple notches to the covers, a couple sticker ghosts, but the spine is uncracked and it sits straight. A great commuting copy.
