Scarce and very desirable volume from John Deaver, a physician of note from the late 19th. and early 20th. century. Oversized hardcover…11” x 8.25”. 551 clean, unmarked pages without any age tone. 125 full plate illustrations, all drawn from dissections. Detailed explanations of the images. Good binding. Internal condition of the book is very good+. It’s hard to overestimate the quality of the illustrations and the heavy, top notch paper used. Pages 57 to 87 has small tear repairs made with archival quality repair tape. Images and text are not affected. There’s a pic. The exterior has minor wear…..Very light corner bumps, edge wear, spine cover ends rubbed. No exterior soiling. Overall condition is very good.

Inside the front cover, in pencil that has survived more than a century, is written: Dr. A. B. Jensen – Chicago, Jan. 1902. One can imagine Dr. Jensen consulting these pages late at night, his oil lamp flickering over anatomical drawings, trying to heal in an age when surgery was still a battle and science was just beginning to find its footing.
