This is a 1957 vintage Empire Aristocrat; a Hermes Baby built under licence by British Typewriters using Swiss Hermes parts. These all steel ultraportable machines are simple and robust and were favoured by foreign news and war correspondents as they fitted neatly under the seats of airliners of the time. This is the later S2 model introduced in 1955 with a larger diameter platen. The machine has been cleaned and serviced and a new ribbon fitted. It is in good mechanical and cosmetic condition with signs of use and age but very presentable and types well.
