American Photography was formed in 1907 through the merger of three other magazines, American Amateur Photographer (1889-1907), Camera and Dark Room (1898-1907), and Photo-Beacon (1889-1907). Volume 1 began with the July 1907 issue. American Photography was published by the American Photographic Publishing Company of New York and Boston. Contributors to the magazine included the Camera Club of New York, the Boston Photo-clan, and Photo-Pictorialists of Boston. The magazine also solicited paid editorial contributions from photographers throughout the United States.
