Hall, Hazel Walkers New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1923. First Edition. Hardcover. First Edition. Poet’s second book. Hazel Hall (1886-1924) was an American poet based in Portland Oregon. Hall left public school at the age of 12 when she became confined to a wheelchair. She continued her education at home reading poets Edna St. Vincent Millay, Robert Frost, and Emily Dickinson and began writing at the age of 9. She worked as a seamstress beginning in her teens and her writing often reflected the themes of sewing and the view from her window at home. In 1921, she received the Young Poets’ Prize conferred by Poetry magazine. Walkers is her second book of poetry and many of the poems herein speak of those who pass by her window.
