A decorative early 20th-century edition of "Evangeline" poetry book. The name "Evangeline" is most famously associated with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem of the same name, published in 1847. The poem tells the story of a young Acadian woman's search for her lost lover during the expulsion of the Acadians from Nova Scotia. Such poems were often published in beautifully bound editions during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, making them popular gifts and decorative items. The decorative gold embossing and the choice of a floral motif are characteristic of the aesthetic sensibilities of that era. The cover does have damage From age and use. Interior pages are clean and intact. Please refer to photos for overall condition.
