Tested with HDMI output to TV: -powers on -DVD tray opens and closes -plays DVDs with clear picture and sound -reads and plays both a commercial DVD and a homemade one -VHS tested and playback works though the picture shows noticeable static using my test tape. The player may just need head cleaning, which was not performed. Recording/burning functions were NOT tested.
