Rudolf Bernhard learned the profession of optician. He had his first major role in 1926 at the Küchlin Theater in Basel. Theater tours followed. In 1941 he opened his Rudolf Bernhard Theater in Zurich, which by 1962 should have had almost 7,000 performances.
