There are several different types of car seats; Each type is best used for children of a specific size and age, and is either a rear-facing seat, a front-facing seat, or both.

Booster Seat
There are two types of booster seats, high back boosters and belt-positioning/seat-only boosters. High back boosters can be used for children 1-8 years old who are shorter than 4'9" (57") tall. Belt-positioning/seat-only boosters are best used for older children (4-8 and up to 4'9").

Convertible Car Seat
Convertible car seats can be used for children up to four years old who weigh between 20-40lbs as either a rear- or front-facing car seat.

Infant Car Seat
Infant car seats are designed for children up to around a year old who weigh at least 20lbs.
