Cons: No firewire ports, buggy TV Guide program.
The Bottom Line: This recorder satisfies a number of tech needs of the average household. Helps with archiving old VHS media, acts as a DVR, and offers superior DVD recording options.

Pros: Lots of storage capacity, TV guide feature awesome. No phone line needed! Very quiet
Cons: Cost, lack of firewire port. No DVD-RW support
The Bottom Line: A very nice unit. TV guide feature makes recording a breeze (similar to TIVO, without the need for a phone line or additional monthly fees)

The VCR has pretty much died when the DVD recorder prices slid to less than $300. My first VCR (European Panasonic SD11AM) cost $340 and had one speed and no stereo sound. As DVD recorders are getting cheaper, they are getting more capable as well...
