I grew up around Electro-Lux tank vacuums. They were built of metal and lasted forever. There were vac shops then and you owned your vac so long you would need replacement parts. No so today. Pros Long cord, on-board tools and hoses. Auto height adjustment.
Cons Beater brush continues to spin when vacuum in upright position.

Pros light, compact.
Cons lacks good agitation, not recommended for owners with pets

You have to be really careful when test driving this vacuum.  I tried it at a friends house before buying my own version.  They had a very low pile carpet and pushing the vacuum was so easy.  It seemed to do a great job, so we got it for my mother in law.  She had low pile carpet, hardwood and... Pros lightweight, reliable, good company reputation

Initially I bought this vacuum because of the ads I'd seen on TV and in newspaper ads stating that it was an extremely light vacuum, yet had great suction and cleaning ability. But I also bought it because of the brand reputation.
