An auto and manual camera lens is a versatile tool for any photographer. Lenses like the Nikon Nikkor AF-S can be adjusted to suit a wide variety of photographic styles, from landscapes and scenery to fast-shutter sports photography. This Nikon camera lens is also particularly good at capturing images of nature. With a speedy aperture of f/1.4G, the Nikon Nikkor AF-S can snap the shutter fast enough to catch events such as bolts of lightning, falling rain, and moving wildlife with ease. This auto and manual camera lens has a focal length of 55 mm — ideal for travel photography, and taking pictures of any subject from a distance. This lens also increases ISO levels drastically without adding any noise to pictures, making it easy to create super sharp, crisp photography even in low lighting. With a weight of only 8 oz, this Nikon camera lens is also compact enough to take along anywhere. The Nikon Nikkor AF-S is compatible with Nikon cameras, and uses a Nikon F mount. Less

This is a large aperture prime lens with a standard focal length of 50mm, ideal for all digital SLR cameras. This lens has superior peripheral brightness even at the maximum aperture and corrects a possible sagittal coma flare. This lens is perfectly suited for a wide range of subjects enabling outstanding, sharply defined images against a nicely blurred background. The fast, F1.4 aperture makes this lens desirable for use with digital SLR cameras. This lens effectively becomes an 80mm medium telephoto lens on digital cameras with APS-C size image sensors. The optimum optical design and molded glass aspherical lens elements provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. Superior optical performance is also ensured throughout the focusing range. It creates a very attractive blur, even when a small aperture is used. Less

A Short Time Line toward the Prime

It’s about time Nikon developed this prime lens for the new line of Nikon dSLR and what Nikon did was to develop this lens to replace the 50mm AF-D, which doesn’t have autofocus capability for their new camera line that requires the... Read full review »

Pros Good optics, well built
Cons Not class leading yet priced that way, slow AF-S
Recommended it? No

This is the new AF-S Version of the well regarded 50mm AF-D 1.4, which is still available.

Overall:
This is a bit beefier, if memory serves, than my old 50mm 1.4, and it also feels better with tighter tolerances.

Optics:
They're good, though not great and this is the... Read full review »
