Nikon D80 slots nicely between the entry-level D50 and the semi-professional/professional D200, clearly based on the D70 design but also different enough to be seen as a completely other model. It features a ten megapixel DX format CCD (the same we presume as used by Sony in the DSLR-A100), the metering sensor from the D50 and numerous other items taken or modified from the D200. Less

The D90 provides remarkable performance and operability, featuring Nikon’s exclusive Scene Recognition System that optimizes auto focus, auto exposure, i-TTL control and auto white balance milliseconds before the shutter is released. Live View mode allows shooting while confirming the subject on the large 3-in., approx. 920k-dot, high-density colour LCD. It offers three contrast-detect AF modes to allow photographers to focus on any point in the frame, enabling a greater variety of composition. In addition to wide and normal area AF, the D90 offers Face-priority AF in Live View mode for even sharper portraits. These are just some of the powerful features housed in a compact, comfortable-to-hold body, with intuitive controls. The D90 will satisfy the requirements of passionate photographers who demand superior image quality and want exciting photographic possibilities. Less

The Camera Nikon Had To Make!

by colonialpara , Dec 1, 2006
Pros: Compact, lightweight and under $1,000.
Cons: Use of SD instead of CF cards.
The Bottom Line: An excellent entry-to-mid level dSLR. You could do FAR worse and get less. For Nikon film camera users, this is an excellent step-up dSLR!
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: To anyone interested in photography, especially DIGITAL imaging, it is quite obvious that the Megapixel War continues and that the two baddest guys on the block, Nikon and Canon continue to do battle. That battle, for the hearts and minds of...

The perfect prosumer DSLR.

by zhany2 , Sep 12, 2006
Pros: Great ergonomics, great image quality!
Cons: No mirror lockup.
The Bottom Line: It may not have a full frame sensor, built-in "anti-shake" or "anti-dust" systems, but this camera has superb ergonomics and offers D200 image quality in a D50 sized package.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: I have been a Nikon camera user for a very long time, starting with a Nikon FE (a manual 35 mm body) my father gave me in 1984. The Nikon FE, combined with a Nikon 50 mm f/1.4 lens, served me well until the middle of 2004, when I acquired a Nikon...

by colonialpara , Jul 9, 2009
Pros: Beautiful images in a smaller, lighter user friendly package.
Cons: Less robust build quality.
The Bottom Line: When you want beautiful pictures and the ability to use a variety of lenses, try the D90.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: The Nikon D90 is just the latest in a lengthy and capable list of consumer digital SLR cameras introduced by Nikon in the sub-$1000 price category; and it is also a camera that folks interested in developing their photographic skills after using...
