The AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens features Nikon`s Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass, Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and enhanced Vibration Reduction (VRII) to ensure the best images. Optics have also been perfected for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. The Zoom-Nikkor lens offers 70-300mm (4.3x) zoom performance, and is suitable for various telephoto shooting opportunities, particularly in sports, nature and wildlife photography. When used with a Nikon DX format digital SLR, the picture angle is equivalent to what would be experienced with a 105-450mm lens on a 35mm. SLR Advanced Nikon engineering has given rise to a compact lightweight lens design that offers outstanding optical performance and excellent handling characteristics. The new Nikon Vibration Reduction (VRII) system enables users to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower* than would otherwise be possible. Nikon 70-300 A New Version of an Old Standby

by Howard_Creech , Apr 28, 2000
Pros: Faster, ED glass, lighter, cheaper
Cons: No rotating tripod collar
The Bottom Line: Nikon's update of the venerable 75-300 Nikkor is a bit lighter, a bit faster, and has better resolution.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: The recently introduced Nikkor 70-300 f4.0-5.6 ED AF-D lens replaces one of Nikon's most popular consumer zooms, the 75-300 f4.5-5.6. The old model 75-300 was much loved by backpackers, hikers, cyclists, and travelers because of the wide range of...

Bang for the buck!

by uniq , Oct 27, 2005
Pros: extreme optical quality, excellent construction, includes case and integrated lens hood
Cons: excellent price point vs its bigger brother the F/2.8...but still expensive. Lens collar
The Bottom Line: It may be an F/4 but you save $4000! and get awesome performance. It works fantastically well with Nikon teleconverters.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review:

The second you start looking at telephoto lenses longer than about 200mm you will start to see a HUGE upward spiral in price. Your jaw will drop when you see the $5000 price tag on an F/2.8 Nikkor 300mm or the $10,000 F/2.8 400mm. You...

Another good Nikon lens

by rbr28 , Nov 12, 2007
Pros: VR, image quality, cost compared to faster lenses or bigger zooms.
Cons: f/5.6 at 300mm is limiting.
The Bottom Line: One of the best options for a first lens, if you need the reach.
This reviewer recommends this product.
Review: I have this lens attached to a Nikon D80. The lens is by far, my most used lens and I have been very happy with it. I'll try to point out the pluses and minuses in some kind of logical order.
