This larger station wagon is based on the Grand Sports Tourer Vision R concept, which was introduced in Detroit last year. The R-Class will be built in Vance, Ala. A long-wheelbase version will be produced for the U.S. market, alongside a short-wheelbase equivalent, which will be exported to Europe. Eventually, Mercedes is expected to sell the short-wheelbase version in the U.S. with its larger sibling. Annual production will fall around 50,000 units, about half of which will be intended for domestic consumption. Less
Vision, innovation, and charismatic appeal. Mercedes-Benz invented the luxury sport sedan nearly four decades ago, and today's E-Class continues the tradition of all-around performance and comfort.

Review: While the U.S. hunts for a solution to its dependence on foreign oil, Europe has already settled on one: diesel. Influenced by high fuel prices and tax incentives, Europeans purchased diesel engines in over half of the new cars they bought last...
