Garmin eTrex Venture HC Handheld GPS Receiver has all the usual bells and whistles. This unit can calculate your maximum speed, average speed, and distance covered. We bought this specifically for geocaching.  It was really easy to set up, and hasn't steered us in the wrong direction yet.  The price is great for a great starter GPS.  Not really great for navigation in the car... you would need different maps for that.  If you're wanting it...
