The Astro Cargo Van is available in 2WD and AWD. Safety and security improvements include a battery-rundown protection system, automatic headlamp control, and lockout provision. The lockout provision prevents the driver door from locking in the event that the key is left in the ignition. The optional remote keyless entry includes panic alarm. Other improvements feature a plastic fuel tank with 27-gallon capacity and a quieter V6 engine. New standard features include 15-inch steel wheels, flash-to-pass feature and retained accessory power. Retained accessory power feature maintains power to accessories for 20 minutes after ignition is turned off. Chevrolet's large pickups are mostly unchanged for 2006, awaiting redesigned replacements due as early 2007 models. This report covers half-ton 1500-series Silverados in regular, extended, and Crew Cab models. Extendeds have rear-hinged back doors that don't open independently of the fronts; Crew Cabs have four conventional doors. Both include a 3-person rear bench seat and offer front bucket seats as well as a bench. Regulars and extendeds offer 6.6- and 8.0-ft Fleetside cargo beds or a 6.6-ft Sportside flare-fender box. Pros: Good mileage, reliability, overall low cost of operation.
Cons: Payload rating doesn't match the actual load I've placed on the truck.
The Bottom Line: It's definitely a light duty truck that I've pushed to the limit. I'm having to keep a close eye on the rear suspension. Worth the price I paid.

Pros: Tows large loads well, Comfortable ride
Cons: gas mileage, get a ladder if your under 6'
