Flooded floor: Maytag Service is the Worst Ever
Date of Review: Dec 16, 2006
The Bottom Line: Avoid this or any other Maytag product, because if it fails, you will go through a service repair nightmare.
3 mo. after buying a Maytag Neptune MAH7600A, it flooded my laundry room. All of the water wooshed straight out the front door, after the rubber door gasket fell inside of the laundry barrel. I was upset, but not too worried. After all, how hard could it be to replace the gasket? Well folks, that was just the beginning. 43 days and 8 appointments later, my washer is finally fixed - for now. I have no doubt that it is only a matter of time before something else goes wrong with it. After all, the last problem occurred because the factory workers in Korea, who built my machine, forgot to install, not one, but two parts.
Warranty service from Maytag is the worst I have ever experienced, bar none. Scheduling appointments between 8 and 5 is not uncommon for them. Typing an accurate description of the problem into the service request system so the repairman would come prepared, was too much to ask. Canceling appointments at the last minute is par for the course; it happened 4 times to me, and in once case, I didn't even receive a courtesy phone call about the cancellation. Speaking to a service supervisor is an impossibility. Mentioning that I would write to higher authorities within the company or contact my local (San Francisco) consumer advocacy TV program was met with, and I quote Frank, the dispatcher in WA, "I don't care; it doesn't affect me."
Finally, to get my Maytag Neptune washing machine repaired, I got Maytag's parent company, Whirlpool involved. Whirlpool could not access my customer record and could not get answers from Maytag, but at least they scheduled me with an outside repair service that finally fixed the problem.
As for the ruined floor from the washing machine flood -- that's my problem, not covered by the Maytag warranty.
