A new low for GE
Date of Review: Mar 4, 2009
The Bottom Line: Don't ever buy a GE appliance!
I bought this washer for a second residence because it was a Consumer Reports "Best Buy". After this experience, I doubt I'll trust Consumer Reports again. I'm considering cancelling my subscription.
I equiped my entire kitchen with GE Monogram (top-of-the-line) appliances 7 years ago, and have had nothing but trouble from them from day-one. To make matters worse, their customer service was awful. We even wrote letters to the VP of Operations, and didn't get the courtesy of a response, so the customer service "apple" is rotten to the core.
When I told the lady at the local store about my hesitation to buy this washer, she indicated that GE had had major problems with their appliances 7-8 years ago, but that they had "cleaned up their act" and now were some of the best. She assured me it'd be a great machine.
Well, less than 3 months after purchase, and only 15 days of actual usage, the motor broke...no agitation, no spin. The repairman admitted that they have had problems with the motors on these machines. After reading the other reviews here, I'm wondering what other "fun things" are in store for me with this washer.
The store won't replace mine, told me I'd have to talk to GE. From past experience, I know how far that will get me. I'm stuck. But you don't have to be. DON'T BUY GE --- ever!!
