Author's Review

I just did a review for the Sony hc 46 and now I returned that when I saw this on sale and tried it out. These tiny Sony camcorders are so under scored by experts its almost amazing. This is a super clear video camcorder that gives great results indoors and good outdoors. It though doesn't give the real affects of better chips but its a great camcorder for basic viewing with really good focus . I am now testing it to a camcorder with higher chip 1/3 chip size and so far its comparable. But ulitmately the shake outside was bad and the color could be better .This 1/6 inch chip is on the low end for color but the dv interface contributes to video that is often better then dvd , high 8 or vhs format inside at least to me. I can't tell that much difference between the video from this camcorder and the HC46 except you get a more powerful 20x zoom. One day someone is going to go over each difference in the line and be objective in determining pros and cons in quality but for now I gave back the Hc46 to get the extra convenience of 20x zoom. The Hc 46 has a bigger chip but not much difference to me in quality just a tad better. The hc 26 has firewire port built in which is also better then the included dock you need for hc 46. This is extremely convenient point to know about before you buy one on ebay or open box, for if you lose that dock with the 46, the software you need for the 46 to work can be very troublesome. Now all I do is hook up the 26, no waiting for dvd finalizing and I get great clear video. Its small , and just one of the best tiny camcorders out there and easy to us This camcorder also has Sony color. Would I rather have more color from the better chips? Of course but for the price of only 240 dollars I got a fantastic camcorder I couldn't expect more from. I love this camcorder. Ps update, since this review I returned this not because its bad, but because I am a glutton to look for better although so far I have not found it. Wish I kept it, good to have around or take with in emergency but there are way better out there
