Please don't buy this Camcorder!!!!!
Date of Review: Nov 27, 2007
The Bottom Line: Do not buy this product!
I don't think I have ever been more disappointed in a product in my entire life.
The Samsung SC-DC64 camera was originally purchased in October 2006, a month before my first son was born. This was a present from "Grandma to be" that lives far away. Grandma paid $379.00. We were talked out of buying the in store warranty by the Circuit City Sales person. First big mistake!
We opted for this camera because it was about $100 less expensive than the Sony model. We wanted the DVD option because it seemed very convenient to pop out the mini DVD and put it in your DVD player.
We started with a little test videos before my son was born and had no problems with 10 minutes of video. The first problem occurred when we were filming my son's birth. The battery died in the middle of the filming. We were then not able to finalize the disk, the camera read disk error. the disk became corrupted and the video was lost. We can watch little snippets of it on the camera, but basically that is it.
We gave the camera a few other chances. Additional problems with disk finalization, battery life, etc.
I contacted Samsung in early January 2007. I was very disappointed in customer service department. I was disconnected several times, there were case numbers assigned in error, missing information etc. The staff was in general quite rude and incompetent on the phone. After a long process I was told I probably had a bad disk in the camera and was to send in my old model for a new camera.
I received my new model in January 2007. I also purchased new disks!!!!! This model had exactly the same problems: Disk errors, finalization problems, and poor battery life. Most of the video I took of my son is completely ruined. In fact I have had more luck with the video option of my $50 digital camera! I missed moments on video with my digital camera because I was messing around with the Samsung.
I have had tech savvy friends look at my camera, only to come up with the same frustrations.
I did miss the 3 month deadline to return the camera to Samsung, although I doubt they would have offered any compensation for the loss.
I called Samsung today November 2007, and there is nothing they will do. I will most likely try to sell this camera and buy a new one.
Very disappointed in Samsung (missing video of my baby's 1st year.) I will never purchase another Samsung product again. I am going to save my money and buy a SONY.
