Product Review

Sony RM-AX4000 Remote

by   mferris ,   Jan 26, 2008

Pros:  Software programmable, nice blue illumination..

Cons:  Simply won't work for other manufacturers products.

The Bottom Line:  Don't bother. It's not worth the money and the older Rm-AV3100 is a better unit.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

I purchased this unit because I was so happy with the previous model and thought this would be an improvement but I was so wrong.

I have owned a number of Sony remotes and each one was better than the previous model so I thought this would be also, but I now think it's a major step backwards.

Obviously Sony wanted to join those like Logitech who allow programming of the remote via the PC and this part isn't too bad. I found the software easy to understand and use, but then I'm an IT pro so that may make a difference.

My objections are with the remote itself.

I have a Panasonic Plasma TV which the remote refuses to turn on no matter how it's programmed.

I also have a Technics AX7 Receiver which the remote refuses to learn functions like Display for.

I have other examples I could list.

The Express mode turns on some things but not others.

I programmed the remote via the software and directly with the same result.

Making this short and not wasting your time regarding what others have already said here this is a major step backwards for Sony demonstrating that I think Sony is not putting as much R&D into their products as they used to leading to this poor product.

The older RM-AV3100 is a better product.
