Product Review

Faulty door mounted ice machine

by   quantumfog ,   May 28, 2008

Pros:  Generally, the unit appears to work okay. No problem with the light. Yet.

Cons:  Poorly engineered ice maker; taking too long for repairs.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

The door mounted ice machine is one of the primary reasons I bought this model.

A part of the mechanism rotates to dump ice into the bin. The gears for this rotating part are located on the lower left side, below the level of the water.

While the water is still liquid, it will seep into the gears and freeze. Eventually, the mechanism will stall. We've had repairmen out twice to replace the unit.

Last night, the gears froze up again. The fridge goes out of warranty in two months.

This unit was purchased at Sears, and of course, once the paperwork is signed they're not interested in repairs.

The wait to get one of LG's repairmen out is about a week.

I don't think I'll be buying any more appliances from LG.
