The HP 6310 is the 3rd all in one machine Ive owned in the past 4 years, and so far, its been the best. My first all in one was a Brother MFC, which broke down in less than a year. I then moved to a Lexmark X6170, which worked pretty well for a couple years. Recently, I converted to Linux, which Lexmark does not support, so I needed a new machine.
I decided to buy an HP all in one due to their support of the Linux OS. My local Office Max had the 6310 on sale for $99.00, so I picked it up. The replacement cartridges are available for $40.00, which is a pretty reasonable price, in my opinion.
Setting up the printer was a snap. The directions were very easy to follow, and I had my test page printed within 25 minutes of opening the box. The printer operates quietly, and it prints pretty quickly as well. I was also able to set up the time, fax settings, and preferences on the computer as well. That was much easier than entering all those settings on the printer.
Ive been very happy with the print quality, and the paper feed hasnt jammed yet (although I probably just jinxed myself!) The fax works well, and the scanner also works well.
I was able to install this printer on my Ubuntu Linux machine without any problems. The HP 630 print driver worked perfectly, although Im still working the bugs out on the scanner. It works great with Windows, but Im still having problems getting my Ubuntu computer to recognize the scanner. Its not a high priority problem for me to fix, so I havent worked on it much.
All in all, Im very happy with my HP 6310. Its compact, cost-effective, and it works well with Ubuntu. I highly recommend it.
