Not a bad product for the scope, but the hype about being better than Gen2 really is exaggerated. Firstly, the resolution is about 400x300 pixels. Count em - it's not hard, just takes patience. That's like old Analogue TV - still very good, but older Gen2's are like SD Digital TV or a high quality DVD on a modern HDTV screen and modern Gen2 is like High Definition Digital TV, so this is like Gen1. I'd say it's outright better, but the resolution is roughly the same, although unlike Gen 1, there's no edge distortion. Possibly you could compare this scope to a Gen1 ...
As for light amplification with ambient light? It's again about the same as Gen1 - maybe a little better than older models. But it just can't cope with lower light levels and loses the image long before Gen2 becomes grainy.
It chews through the batteries quickly and the rear viewscreen is far too bright.
Finally, the field of view is about a third of what it should be, although it's still useful, you lose too much image - far more than any Gen1 or Gen2 scope I've seen.
Other than that, it's pretty good for the price - excellent for CCTV in remote areas when you're a long way from anything or for watching remote roads.
It also has two infra-red lights - one is always on (perfect for indoors) and the other is switched on and gives good use at distances. I've read a number plate at 70 metres with that light.
It also works well during the day, although it does suffer blooming (halo's) around bright light in a dark background.
It's not a bad scope, but if you need it for rural use or for really dark nights over longer distances than a few hundred meters, or image quality is important, it's not for you. Just need to see something at night without being seen? It's perfect :)
And if you're using it for recorded surveillance? Perfect. Possibly one of the few places it beats most Gen2 and Gen3.
Pro's
Cheap, well made, easy to use and fun. Great and compares well to other Gen1 units. I'd describe this as Gen1 quality. Video output, not affected by bright lights. Can be used during the day. Takes external power. Diopter adjustment and reasonably depth of field at all focuses. Good light gain. Good MTF.
Cons
Limited field of view, too much zoom, can't see in really dark conditions (eg, starlight), screen too small, limited 400x300 resolution, Compares well to early Gen1 - Can't really compete with a decent Gen2.
