I love it!

Author's Review
I came late to the MP3 generation, having bought my first player only last year. I only used it occasionally, when I was walking by myself. Given that, it really wasn't worth what I paid for it. This year, I wanted to try some new things with it, but it died on me unexpectedly, so I decided to get an iPod.
One of the main reasons I bought an iPod is that so many applications are geared to it now. On my treadmill, there's a special connection, so I can hook up my iPod directly -- which has been wonderful.
Alarm clocks, car stereos, speakers, whatever -- if there's a product that can involve music, there's almost certainly more than one version which takes an iPod. If you use another kind of player, you might find a way to use it, or you might not.
Now I'm using the thing at work, while I exercise, while I work in my home office ... I'm really never without it.
I love everything about it: the metal case and the weight and size of it, the excellent sound (although I don't use earbuds), the varied uses, etc.
The thing that kept me from buying one before was that I'd heard you have to buy all your music from iTunes. That's not true, as I happily found out. You can rip music from your own CDs, or you can download MP3s from any number of sites. So far, I've only ripped my own CDs, and have about 1,050 songs on mine ... plus about 900 pictures and several podcasts. And I still have room to spare! I only bought the 8GB model because that's all I needed, but I could see myself upgrading.
Honestly, I haven't found any negatives. The controls are fairly easy to figure out, even without documentation. The size is convenient (and would probably be more so if I didn't use regular headphones). Charging is a little slow, but not a big deal; I might get an AC adapter for that purpose, though. I love being able to take my entire music and picture collection everywhere. I've even been on the iTunes store site and subscribed to some free podcasts.
If you're in education, a lot of educational applications are coming together.
Not so interested in the Touch at this time, nor the iPhone. I just don't have a lot of desire or need to have instant access to email, and I don't want to pay for web access.
This is probably one of the best things I've bought in years.
