Good alternative to Bose Soundock

My favorite speakers systems are Bose, Polk and Altec Lansing. Since Polk does not make a portable Ipod speaker system so it was Bose Sounddock versus Altec Lansing IM9. Both Bose and Altec Lansing systems outclass the other manufacturers but I chose the IM9 because I thought the bass was better than the Bose Sounddock and the IM9 is more durable for outdoor use. After a week of use, I have no regrets. The sound quality exceeded my expectations. The speakers now serve as my portable boombox and the mini plug input to the IM9 was useful for my wife's portable Sony MP3/CD player. I purchased four rechargeable C size batteries and I now have freedom from my headphones. The adaptor for my Ipod Nano works well without any problems. The only negatives are a lack of a remote control and the user's instructions are poor but eventually I figured it out. It also does not have a handle but it does come with a backpack to carry it. I own a $2500 home stereo system and a $1500 car stereo system so I am pretty picky on my stereo systems. While the IM9 does not match the sound quality of my home and car systems, I would say that for a portable system that cost under $200, the sound is very satisfying. Only the $300 portable Bose Sounddock is comparable. The Bose has clearer highs and better stereo separation and imaging but the bass of the IM9 is clearly superior. For outdoor use, IM9 is the one to buy.
