Author's Review
I had been looking for good portable iPod speakers for some time now. I had a friend that had two different portable speakers for the iPod, and both of them had poor sound quality and seemed fragile. One day I went to Best Buy to look for an FM transmitter, and the sales clerk showed me these speakers. I fell in love instantly.
My needs for iPod speakers required good sound quality and portability. These speakers meet and exceed my requirements. The speakers are small, with no moving parts other than the slot that you dock your iPod into, the stand, which folds out from the back, and the cover to the various plug holes in the back. It is 11" wide, 8" high, and 3" deep. It comes with a backpack to transport it in. You can feel how sturdy it is, but it still only weighs 4 pounds.
The sound is amazing, especially for such small speakers. The bass sounds great and it projects well. Part of the reason I got these speakers was to listen to it at work, before or after store hours. I had it playing in the front of the store and could hear it well in the back of the store, something my friends speakers could not do. The sound is clear and strong, not tinny and hollow like the other speakers I've heard.
Another major selling point for these speakers is that you can use them to connect your iPod to your TV. So if you have an iPod video and want to watch your downloaded content on your TV, all you need it a video cable. I tried hooking it up straight into my TV, and it didn't work. Then I tried hooking it up through my home theater system, and it worked fine. Plus, the sound still runs through the portable speaker, so you get better wuality sound than a regular TV's speakers.
It can run off of batteries or be plugged in, and it charges your iPod either way. It comes with dock adapters for every type of iPod, except the iPod shuffle. It has an input jack for outside sources, such as another mp3 player or portable DVD player, etc. It has a headphone jack (although I don't know why you would want to use headphones with it).
To sum it all up, I am thoroughly impressed with these speakers. They have the best sound I've heard in iPod speakers. All the other iPod speakers' sound quality has made me leery of buying any iPod speakers, but I'm glad I gave this unit a try.
