SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card

Date of Review: Apr 25, 2007

The Bottom Line:  SanDisk Extreme III 2GB SD Card. The devices it does operate in the card is amazingly fast. A reasonable price and appears to be highly reliable and durable.
THE WAIT IS OVER

My SanDisk Extreme? III SD Card arrived over the weekend. I couldn't wait to insert into my Fuji S700 to see what it can do. The excitement had built up with the anticipation but the final result was extreme III disappointment. For whatever reason the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card will not work with the NEW Fuji S700. The camera repeatedly displays a card read error. The camera will not even attempt to format the card. SEE REVIEW AT THIS URL for addition information: http://www99.epinions.com/content_356462595716

IS THE CARD DEFECTIVE?

I was positive the card was defective. Even today a small percentage of electronic devices fall prey to the manufacture demon monsters. Soon I was to be enlighten and the revelation was going to prove SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card was perfect.

SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card

The SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card is suppose to withstand weather from -13 degrees to +185 degrees. To maintain a read/write speed of 20MBs per second. The new technology built-in to the SD card is refered to as ESP (Enhanced Super-Parallel Processing). The SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card is designed to meet the requirements of future high speed devices entering the marketplace.

GYPSY CARD READER CAST IT SPELL

Inserting the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card into the multi-function card reader built into my Gateway MX3702 notebook everything was 100 percent a go. The notebook recognized the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card, display the formatting information and even reformat it.

In the card reader transferring files back and forth was a breeze and appeared to be blazing fast. Though the card still failed to function as expected in the Fuji S700 digital camera.

Think READYBOOST enhancement in Microsoft Windows Vista.

OLDER EQUIPMENT COMES ALIVE!

The Aiptek MPVR2K6 was the next device to attempt using the card. I wasn't expecting the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card to function properly or at all in this camera but surprises never fail to reveal themselves.

Saving a still image with the card is less then a second and shooting video in the camera's full resolution mode was like real-time. Saving the video footage with the 2GB 120X card takes a few second, with the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card it was done in a blink-of-the-eye. I stopped shooting to save and almost instantly the device was ready to start another video segment.

When time permits I will add some MP3s to the card from my desktop PC and play back on the Aiptek MPVR2K6. The video shot ran more smoothly so I'm positive music will be more life like as well. I'll update soon.

FUJI verses SANDISK

I've contacted both parties -- Fuji and Sandisk. Fuji recommends the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card in it's operation manual. Sandisk states that the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card is designed for professionals requiring the most from their equipment.

Both companies are being very helpful but current suggestions have not been productive unfortunately.

SANDISK COSTUMER CARE

Sandisk thus far as been prompt responding though issue is still unresolved. I'm awaiting further feedback now that I have supplied them additional information.

The latest reply from Sandisk is the SD card may not be an original product. It is in full retail packaging and appears to be authentic. However, this is an mail order product because local stores in this rural area don't have the Extreme III 2GB version in-stock as of yet.

I have supplied the vendor information to Sandisk and I have contacted the vendor about the issue of this card not working with my Fuji S700 SLR digital camera. Informing them I have given Sandisk their contact information.

I've never purchased a counterfeit item before to my knowledge. Should this SD card be counterfeit they have done an excellent job of reproduction. If this is the case I'll be sure to point out the differences so others can avoid this inconvenience. The card is made in China.

What if my new wonder SD card turns out to be a counterfeit?

Will Sandisk remedy the problem or leave me holding the bag? After all it's their reputation on the line. When these questions are answered we'll all know the quality of the Sandisk Corporation.

FUJI COSTUMER CARE

Fuji has also been prompt in responding thus their response did not solve the issue at hand. Awaiting further replies and suggestions from them too.

Fuji's people recommend formatting the SD card while the camera is in play mode. This did not work either. Camera still shows a card error.

I'll have to update at a later date. It appears that this is going to take somewhat more time then expected.

RECOMMENDATION

The purchase of the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card did not meet the intended expectations. Whether this is the fault of the card or the camera or both— I must highly recommend the SanDisk Extreme? III 2GB SD Card. Why you may ask? Because the devices it does operate in the card is amazingly fast.
