Good Trackball w/ scroll wheel
Date of Review: Mar 18, 2009
The Bottom Line: If you prefer a trackball and use this on one system this is a very nice device. The optical tracking is fast and accurate, the ture scroll wheel easily accessed.
I prefer trackballs and have had other trackballs, including Logitech, for a long time.
One reason I wanted to upgrade to this was to get a track wheel for scrolling.
This is one of the few trackballs that has an actual scroll wheel.
The optical tracking is very responsive, the wheel is well placed and used all the time.
The buttons are also well placed and ergonomically designed.
It is recognized right away by XP and Vista, but the Logitech driver and program add some additional features.
The driver install is quick and easy.
I tried to use this with a KVM, an older non-USB KVM and it would not work.
Logitech support was not helpful and basically said it would not work with a USB to PS2 adapter.
For use on a single system it works 100%.
There is a quirk in Vista, when using sleep mode.
If you put your system to sleep for a long time the trackman will not wake up.
For short times, 5-10 minutes, there is no problem.
I found that going into device manager and disabling the mouse then re-enabling it usually bring it back, but you need a mouse to do that.
All in all this is a very good device.
The batteries last for many weeks of daily usage and the Logitech driver will warn you when they are low.
