Author's Review
We are expecting our first child, so a camcorder was on the list of things to buy immediately. When I saw this one, with the hard drive, was in our price range, I couldn't resist. I was very excited about this camera, and loved everything about it at the store. I was sure I had made the right decision leaving the store.
Then I got home, and the picture quality just does not justify the price. Although the camera is compact, user friendly, and the ease of use in transferring to PC and DVD is awesome, the poor video quality in less than optimal lighting is unacceptable. If it had only been a slight drop-off in quality, I would have considered that an acceptable trade-off for the technology. The video in medium to low-light settings is terrible, however. The footage is extremely grainy, and colors are hard to distinguish. To add to this, the battery that comes with it will only last for about 45 minutes. I just could not accept that the device performed so poorly at its primary function, so I returned it and got an exceptional MiniDV recorder for the price.
HDD video recording, I'm sure, is the future, but unfortunately, where this model is concerned, it's not the present.
