Author's Review
I've (very intensively) used the iMac G5 for over six months now... and I just love it. I can't help it, I really do.
As a graphic designer I ask a lot from any computer I work with. Most of of all I want a computer to be stable: it should perform any (heavy) task without argument. My experience is that the iMac G5 does just that: perform without argument. Much of its stability is of course due to the performance of the Mac OS.
'Panther' (Mac Os 10.3) that came with my iMac is great, hands down. Its very user-friendly, (but even if for me, being quite a experienced Windows user, it took me about a week to really get used to it.) It's very stable (it checks & repairs itself at night... when you're sleeping). And it's fun to not be exposed to viruses and Trojan-horses (probably for the time being!)
I want a computer to be like a buddy, it's that simple. And although I was quite attached to my old No Name Pentium III, it was more a foe than a friend to me most of the time. The frustration of years of ill-designed, incompatible pieces of hardware in the machines I've used (let's not mention the good old Windows OS) was enough for me. I got myself an iMac... and although its hardware maybe not the hottest thing around in a few months (or may I say weeks) from now, at least it is well designed from top to bottom, from the inside and out... cheers. I rest my case.
