Mediocre Sound; Problem Digital Tuner
Date of Review: Jul 26, 2006
The Bottom Line: If you get a set free from the flashing defect, use external speakers and have a recent upgradable universal remote it's a reasonable buy for the price.
I initially quite liked this set apart from the sound quality of the built in speakers. Picture was bright and viewable from a wide angle. The HDTV off air tuner was good and produced a stable picture using a weak signal when my 38" HDTV RCA tube set had trouble and showed breakup. A computer connected via digital input at the recommended 1024 x 768 looked distorted, rough text and had edge bleed. However one could switch to 1280 x 720 and get a full screen, clean, bright, non distorted Windows screen. However 32" is too small to view across the room and really one only needs to sit only a few feet further back then with a 19" monitor. I tried HD video recorded on my PC with a Fusion HDTV card with commercials and "more news at 10 promotions" edited out with videoReDo and it played fine full screen. However if one switched the PC off at 1280 x 720 there was a sync problem when switched back on; so it's best to switch back to 1024 x 768 before shutting down. My main complaint, and this may be my set, was the flashing on regular digital TV picture which didn't happen when the signal was upgraded to HD by a change of program but the low definition commercials in the HD program still showed the effect.
