I bought my first of these humidifiers last year. It does an excellent job of putting moisture in the air. I loved it so much that I bought a second one this year.
I used to use the cool mist evaporative humidifiers but I never liked having to replace the paper filters and since they are located on the floor they blew the cold air that collected on the floor around and made the area where the humidifier was located very drafty.
I have since replace all of my humidifiers with warm air (steam) humidifiers. The room is warmer and I can feel the humidity. Whereas I never felt the moister in the room from the evaporative units. All I felt was drafty.
This unit has a large water storage tank, digital adjustment for humidity level, amount of steam flow and a timer. I don't like the timer. The only way the unit works is when the timer is set. Sometimes I forget to reset the timer when I fill the tank and it turns itself off. The longest the timer can be set is for 18 hours.
The unit is in 4 pieces and is very easy to clean. The pieces are:
1. Base
2. Water storage tank
3. Digital timer and humidistat controls
4. A cone that funnels the steam up through the unit
Someone with a large hand would easily be able to put their hand in the water tank and wipe it out. The tank has a screw on lid and sits inverted (upside down) on the humidifier base.
To clean the base you remove the water storage tank from the base. Remove the digital timer and humidistat controls. Then remove the cone that funnels the steam.
The base has a stainless steal heating pad. The unit comes with mineral pads to place on the steal heating pad. This is supposed to make the unit work better and easier to clean. The pads are made of felt and not very costly. I have used the unit with pads and without. I have found no difference in efficiency or easy of cleaning with or without the pad. I had since stopped using the pads and I am saving my money :)
I clean the unit once a week. All it needs is for the base to be rinsed off and wiped of any mineral build up. The water tank I clean as needed. When I see brown mineral deposits. The more you clean it the easier it is to clean. The longer you wait there are mineral deposits that build up on the pad and cone and have to be scraped. No big deal but it is more work than just rinsing and wiping.
