A Geek's Dream Come True

by   thehandyman ,  Apr 4, 2006
Pros: Super battery life, great GPS reception, repeater capabilities on radio, easy to use
Cons: No peer to peer positioning across repeaters. Radio lacks DCS and more serious radio features.
The Bottom Line: An excellent performer in both GPS and radio functionality, the RINO 530 is clearly as good as it gets in a radio/GPS hybrid. I would highly recommend it anyone.
Review: They Did What? When I read that Garmin had taken their already famous, well made GPS units and combined them with FRS and GMRS radios to make the RINO series I began to drool. Add GMRS repeater capabilities and a color backlit screen and I was no ...

Garmin 530 GPS

by   richtaber ,  Jul 9, 2007
Pros: Excellent accuracy, many useful features. Walkie talkie, altimeter and compass included.
Cons: Screen is small; doesn't show as much topographic detail as I would like.
Review: I use this device for navigating around the woods at night training hunting hounds. I also use it for snowmobiling, hiking, and deer hunting. It is an excellent device, and very accurate. I use it with topo maps and compasses. It is very reliable. ...

Loaded. Radio/GPS

by   tysonson ,  Mar 31, 2006
Pros: Good GPS, 5watt radio, NOAA Weather Channels Tons of features
Cons: Expensive, complicated. Poorly designed and fragile belt clip.
The Bottom Line: If you want all the features in one unit it may be for you. If want the basics you can get them cheaper in two seperate units.
Review: I purchased this system with the intent of using it in the mountains of Colorado. Colorado offers a lot in the way of outdoors. It offers beautiful scenery and many types of sports like rock climbing, skiing, snow shoeing, mountain climbing, hiking, ...

Good device

by   dyeager535 ,  Dec 2, 2008
Pros: Satellite tracking in cover
Battery life
Cons: Short waypoint names
2GB memory limit
Cost
The Bottom Line: Definite buy if you need something that will "do it all". Communicate with other radios...tell you where you are...get you to where you want to be!
Review: I suppose this may be a review fairly short on details, but only because this thing does it all and there isn't enough space or time to talk it all! This is for the 530HCX by the way, not sure if they even make a 530 anymore. There is no opinion category ...

Good Unit

by   thedstratton ,  Apr 17, 2006
Pros: Nice color screen, excellent battery life.
Cons: Break or loose the plastic piece to charge the battery and you are done.
Review: I waited a long time for this and it was worth it. The more people to buy them the better. It does everything it needs to. CON: Needs a plastic piece to charge battery. Garmin only gives you one. If it breaks or you loose it, you are done, no way to ...

Garmin 530HCx

by   wicrisp ,  Sep 4, 2007
Pros: Quickly picks up signal, lots of extras and features
Cons: Only 500 waypoints, seems to get fuzzy when within 15-20ft of waypoint under cover.
Review: I currently own the Rino 530 and and 530HCx. The 530HCx is more sensitive and does pick up satellites quicker. When compared to a 76CSx it keeps a signal under cover, but is unable to hone in on the target like the 76CSx. You may get 15-20ft and it ...

UPDATED: Almost worth it...

by   ronic4010 ,  Sep 21, 2006
Pros: Everything is better. Love the USB connection, color, better buttons
Cons: NEED to buy the MapSource City Navigator. Battery requires the adapter to charge.
Review: I've waited since the Rino 120 was new for these features. You have to go to the web site to see all the features. This thing is loaded. I travel constantly in a 3 hour radius of my home and I am able to load all the area detailed maps. The "Find" ...
