After a year, no complaints!

So I was visiting my parents for a weekend, and both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the good coffee. In times past we have almost dreaded the obligatory cup of coffee since it's usually pretty bad (my parents are known to heat day old coffee up in the microwave! bleah!).

Mom was proud of her new coffee maker and proceeded to give us the low down. I finished the cup, still amazed, and decided right there that any coffeemaker that can do magic with mom's bargain brand, pre-ground, sittin' on the counter for weeks coffee, has passed the test. All coffee makers should have to pass this test. It would put some makers out of business, and rightly so.

Anyway, it was this Bunn model. The main difference between drip coffeemakers and this one is the water passes through the grounds at a precise 200 F (which experts agree is the proper temperature to extract all of that coffee goodness), and the water passes through much faster, hence the 3 minute pot. So you may need to adjust your grind a little. If the coffee is too weak, as one reviewer noted, a finer grind may be needed, since by slowing down the process he got a better result.

Personally, I am using a blend of beans that can accommodate a pretty fine grind. I filter the water as well, so I haven't had deposit build up yet. I can even tell when I occasionally purchase pre-ground coffee whether it's fresh or not. It doesn't have a lot of bells or whistles, but who needs 'em?
