Hurts your ears

Date of Review: Apr 12, 2007

The Bottom Line:  This is a low cost, low quality 5.1 speaker system, best given to someone you don't like.
I purchased this speaker system for use with my Dell XPS410. I selected this system by going to Wal-Mart and looking for the most expensive speaker system. Having thus scientifically found the best cheap speaker system, I ordered it from Amazon.

I hooked it up tonight. The system arrived in a nice, well designed box with clear instructions on how to connect it. Every speaker and cord was wrapped in its own plastic bag. The rear speaker cables were too short to reach the bookcase behind me, but could be extended using a standard RCA extension cord. The front right speaker contains the on/off button, volume control and headphone jack. It connects to the subwoofer using a fairly short, unwieldy serial cable. I guess that could be extended as well using a serial extension cord.

Then, it was time to turn the system on. What a disappointment! Although the subwoofer has a volume control knob, it is impossible to turn it off completely, and you will want to turn it off because the bass is so overwhelming. Worse, the bass seems to be out of synch with the rest of the music. As a result, even the standard Windows sounds sound like crap. Music just hurts your ears. After unsuccessfully trying to correct for this deficiency using my equalizer, and considering opening up the subwoofer case and cutting the wire to the subwoofer driver, I have decided to return the package to Amazon.

I've never had any complaints about other Logitech products. I guess they should stick to making mice and webcams, and leave speaker systems to other companies.
