Author's Review
I bought this unit from circuitcity.com a couple months ago and when I got it everything seemed ok, until I set it up and turned it on...
First time I turned it on it made really loud noises, like all the parts inside were being crunched up. It went away after a few seconds, so I didn't think much of it. After about an hour or so the unit started making really loud annoying noises which I can only describe as a super loud blender. This noise would repeat itself every few seconds, making my dog go crazy and forcing me to shut it off. All through this the unit cooled down my room only about one degree.
I called customer support and they told me I would get a call from their technical support within 3 business days. They assured me that if the unit was defective they would send me a brand new unit along with a prepair shipping label to return the old one. Sounds pretty good, or so I thought....
I didn't get a call from them until 15 days later. During this time I called them back probably 5 or so times, and they just kept telling me to be patient. They told me their technical support department has been really busy lately (big surprise there).
Also during this time I decided to play around with the unit and see if I could figure out what was making the loud noise. I noticed if I tilted the unit back slightly, the noise would go away. So I left the unit on like this and about half an hour later the noise came back, and I noticed there was water leaked ALL over my floor. I must have used an entire roll of paper towels cleaning this up.
So now I knew the problem was water related. So after draining all the water from the unit, I tried running the unit with a tray collecting all the water. It ran fine for about an hour and a half with the tray filling with water and no noises. Then I notice again, water leaked ALL over my floor. And the tray wasn't even full yet, so there was definitely something very wrong with this unit. That was all I could take from this garbage air conditioner, but believe it or not, it gets worst...
So when I finally got the call from the company, they told me they could ship a new unit but that would take about 2 weeks. Hmm, so if their "3 business days" translated to "15 days", then their "2 weeks" must translate to 3 months or something. It'll be fall by the time I get the new unit. Not only that, they also wanted my credit card info, so they could charge me and then refund me once they get the old unit back. No way I was gonna risk losing twice what I paid for this piece of garbage, so I proceeded to call circuit city to get my money back.
This air conditioner is heavy (70 lbs) and I don't have a car, so it wouldn't be practical for me to return this thing in store, and it would cost a fortune to ship. So I asked circuit city if they could send me a prepaid shipping label. They told me it shouldn't be a problem and would get back to me in 5-7 business days. Well guess what, they never did.
So I decided to give them a couple more days, then one morning I noticed a big nasty cockroach coming out of the air conditioner. I don't know if you've ever seen the show "Verminators" on discovery channel, but there was no way I was going to risk a cockroach infestation in my apartment, so I had to throw the entire thing out.
At this point I filed a claim with my credit card company, and they were able to give me my money back...big props to them for that.
And just recently (almost 2 months since I ordered the unit) I got a call from circuit city (finally) saying they would send me the prepaid shipping label. Uhhh too late for that.
And what's weird is the same day I also got a call from Amcor offering to refund my money. Sorry guys you're 2 months too late.
So now I am finally glad to be done with all the headache and stress this despicable air conditioner has caused me. If you've read my entire review, I hope you have learned something from me...NEVER BUY FROM AMCOR.
