Product Review

Dierks Bentley Comes a Little Closer Baby, and I don't Mind a Bit!

by   kirsib ,   Dec 3, 2007

Pros:  Excellent from start to finish

Cons:  He does not wear a cowboy hat!

The Bottom Line:  Dierks has a soft and sexy voice and great sense of humor. Musicians behind him are absolutely awesome. Get this album!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Dierks Bentley is to me more of a guitar man than just a country singer. He crosses the country and pop line and steams it up big time in a sexy and romantic "Come a Little Closer".

In this album Dierks mixes some beer drinking bar songs and I love listening the soft melodies from his guitar while he is singing his ballads. I don't think that his voice is anything spectacular but he has this honest straight forward believable quality while he sings. He opens this album with funny "Lot Of Leavin' Left To Do" which tells you that he is not ready to settle down.

"So So Long" is a song where he tells the girls that they will miss him, great melody again and he just has this uncanny sense of humor. Title song "Modern Day Drifter" is yet another troubadour performance slowing it down and let's you enjoy his soft voice and takes you to a place where there is no rush, no crowds just a guy and his guitar. I think there is a mandolin behind him here? Beautiful!

One great thing about this album to me is that each song is little different or at least tells a different story. "Good Man Like Me" is tad faster music play telling us how good of a man Dierks is.

In the end he gets the violin behind him and promises to get there some day. Long and almost painfully beautiful instruments sound great and you can just close your eyes and travel with Dierks wherever he is taking you.

Great thing about Dierks Bentley and this album is that you don't have to be a country music fan to like it. he reminds me a little of Billy Joel, Dierks just comes across being very talented musician and singer who truly enjoys his job and makes your everyday troubles fade away while listening.

There is some popular hit singles in Modern Day Drifter like "Settle For a Slowdown" but I think you should get the whole album and just find a cozy spot in your sofa, maybe open a good book and sip some wine and let Dierks in the background to unwind your day. You will not find a bad note or a bad song you'd want to Fast Forward, it all knits together like grandmas old homemade sweater that you wanna wear over and over again.

If you enjoy good melodies and do not want to hear any rap or screaming but still want to hear some well written songs with a perfect band and likable brown eyed troubadour singing you to a la la land Modern Day Drifter by Dierks Bentley is THE album to get!
