Chicago: ...does anybody really know who Chicago is? (BOBS w/o)

by   bob_tomato ,  Oct 6, 2005
Pros: Nobody does career retrospectives like Rhino Records. This is a top-notch box set
Cons: You've got to be a SERIOUS Chicago fan to love all of itÂ…
The Bottom Line: Rhino offers you the chance to discover what you're missing in your appreciation of a true original. Chicago's discography provides four decades of (mostly) fabulous jazz/rock/soul/pop for this box set.
Review: There are not a lot of major bands/artists out there anymore that can claim to have been recording albums and touring the world since the sixties – the Rolling Stones come immediately to mind, as do Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Santana, but there ...

Only Just The Start...

by   jshawkeye ,  Feb 18, 2004
Pros: awesome packaging, booklet, remastered songs, bonus DVD
Cons: a bit pricy... but worth it!
The Bottom Line: This box set will rank with the best ever made. You won't find a more complete representation of Chicago anywhere. I recommend it to everyone!

Pros: Lots of great tunes on the first two and a half CDs
Cons: The last two and a half CDs are abominable
The Bottom Line: Well-worth buying not just for nostalgia types. Too bad there's so much junk from the post-1978 days.
Review: Answer: If you went to high school in the 1970s (like me), where ever you were, you were listening to Chicago (neeChicago Transit Authority). Especially if you were FROM Chicago (like me). They were on the radio. They were on your turntable. ...

Starts Great, Peters Out

by   DadtoKatie ,  Aug 9, 2005
Pros: GREAT packaging, liners, photos, etc. Decent selection from CTA - VI albums.
Cons: Too many lame 1980s - early 1990s tracks.
The Bottom Line: Comprehensive, but too much emphasis on the 1980s weaker material.
Review: This is the second attempt at a Chicago boxed set. The first effort, CBS' "Group Portrait" from 1991 is sadly out of print. I say sadly because I'm primarily a fan of the 1969-80 recordings, with little use for what came after, save "Night and Day," ...
