In comparison to Kings of Leon's first album, Aha Shake Heartbreak is both stronger musically and more diverse influentially. I find that it sounds in ways more honestly southern than it's predecessor, but also more cosmopolitan and grown up. The strongest element of the album is the band itself - they have obviously grown more confident and capable as musicians..which makes the idea of a third album even more exciting. I think that the sound of Aha Shake Heartbreak might be more widely accepted than the vintage rock on KOL's first album - so if you found Youth and Young Manhood a little difficult to listen to (although I don't see how that could be), I encourage you to give this one a try.
