A Dragon's Tale from a Youthful Perspective

by   martytdx ,  Jan 17, 2006
Pros: Well-written, fun read, impressive book for so young an author
Cons: His youth shows in the writing in some spots
The Bottom Line: While the writing was a little young-ish, this is definitely worth a read. I expect great things from this author.
Review: Fantasy stories have been around nearly forever, from Robert Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland to J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately, they developed somewhat of a stigma and had fallen out of the mainstream for the most ...

Eragon: The Inheritance..... is rich in imagery and imagination.

by   quidrock ,  Jan 5, 2004
Pros: Great imagination, coupled with human foibles in Paolini's characters make for a strong read.
Cons: It could be another two years before Book 2 is published!
The Bottom Line: A great read, a fresh voice in the genre. Plots, character and language all show creativity and challenge the reader.
Review: Imagine me writing a review of a science fiction/fantasy novel. For one thing, I gave up on them because the genre seems very “serialized” and I am too impatient to read something I love, and then have to wait for the next segment. (Somehow, ...

Magic and Mayhem Await You on Every Page

by   pokemonsick ,  Oct 26, 2003
Pros: A magical world is created for us to walk through and savor.
Cons: Book 2 The Eldest hasn't come out yet!
The Bottom Line: Prepare to go on a fantastic magical journey if you will only open your mind and heart, as well as the cover of the book. Don't miss this journey!
Review: This review will introduce a myriad of characters met within the story, yet holds back from revealing any plot details. You must take the journey with Eragon to discover them for yourself. Meet Eragon, a 15 year old boy verging on the edge of manhood, ...

Paolini could be the next Tolkien...

by   jeffe ,  Jan 26, 2004
Pros: Great story, vivid imagery, telepathic dragons
Cons: a bit too similar to Lord of the Rings...
The Bottom Line: Exciting plot twists, political struggles, and some philosophical reflections - every aspect of the story contributes to the reader's reluctance to put the book down until it's finished.
Review: I grew up reading Tolkien, Feist, and C.S. Lewis, the authors of the most tattered books on my shelf - the ones that have been read so many times that the pages are hanging on to the binding by a few strands of translucent glue. I never had much taste ...

Eragon studies of dragons etc.

by   bjiggityjig ,  Jan 4, 2006
Pros: Mysterious and amazing, unlocks new worlds!
Cons: not recommended for children
The Bottom Line: For anyone who likes fantasy tales, because it's got fantasy written all over it.
Review: What is to become of a fifteen year-old boy who finds a mysterious stone in the mountains? Eragon is a young boy who has been taken into the care of his uncle Garrow.Being young he wanders and explores a lot, and one day on an ordinary adventure ...

Christopher Paolini, True Master!

by   phantom12 ,  Jun 2, 2009
Pros: interesting, compelling, imaginitive, relatible characters, steady action
Cons: same old basic story line
The Bottom Line: Read this book!  It is amazing!  You won't be disappointed.
Review:      I found this true masterpiece in the Harris County Public Library while I was randomly walking about and decided to give it a try.  I was amazed by this 19 year old's writing.  I couldn't believe my ...

Enjoyable to the fullest

by   itsmeslayer ,  Jul 5, 2004
Pros: Captivating story
Cons: Little stretched
Review: The best part about 'Eragon' is that it brings back a world similar to what Tolkien created. Detailed and yet so awesome that you get lost in its depths and start wishing you were one of the characters. The book is complete by itself, but once you get to ...

Eragon - An outstanding book from cover to cover.

by   hinote ,  Jan 30, 2005
Pros: Very good book, a book you read because you love it
Cons: Still kind of new, so it might still be about 8 dollars or so.
Review: Eragon got me hooked from the moment I started it. It's about a teenage boy who lives in a time of magic and dragons, and is suddenly pulled into an intense plot. I eagerly await the sequel, Inheritance, which I think is coming out within a few ...

Anxious for the next one!

by   platinumrose44 ,  Jul 20, 2004
Pros: Well written. Fascinating characters.
Cons: More questions than answers at the end of the book.
Review: Eragon is a VERY good book. I read it in 2 days. I bought the book on a recommendation of a friend who raved about it. Also, I was intrigued by a book written by such a young person. I thought the book well written. Great plot, flow, and characters, ...
