The Old Testament, by C.S. Lewis

Lewis once again uses his superb writing skills to tell a Christian story, give a lesson in morality, whatever you want to call it, by transporting us to a fantastical world. Only, this time, it's not by way of wardrobe, there are no children and no Aslan.

Through the life of Dr.Ransom, Lewis takes us on a journey through space to Malacandra, the Silent Planet. We call it Mars, or the Red Planet. Life on Malacandra is vastly different from life here on earth in some ways, but some things are the same no matter where you go. (A point that Lewis makes in his theological book, Mere Christianity.)

The first book in Lewis's space triology, Out of the Silent Planet merely whets your appetite for more. If you've read any of Lewis's other books, especially the Chronicles of Narnia, you're in for a treat. Written for an older audience, Lewis uses concepts that are much more mature and require intelligence to comprehend. Lewis, however, does not stray from his wonderful story-telling that captured me from the first book of his Narnia series.
