Author's Review
Before you start drooling at the throught of finally knowing the secret to the movie, don't bother, this is basically a script book and does nothing more than equip you the same knowledge as the film. It is a great companion to the movie all the same. An in-depth interview with director Richard Kelly helps to shed some light on the problems of getting your film made, even when it's a work of genius.
Believe it or not, Donnie Darko nearly went straight to video. It was only the dedication of the director and producer team that kept it's head above water, and finally, the involvement of Drew Barrymore and Patrick Swayze.
The interview with Kelly is fascinating, and the information about Darko related events such as the TheyMadeMeDoIt graffiti exhibition and the mistrust it earned at Sundance, helps to set the movie in it's social context.
There is some great original art by Kelly, some of which was used in the film itself, and a version of the Roberta Sparrow book, The Philosophy of Time Travel.
Well worth investing in if you're a fan of the film. You'll find it gets dog-eared very quickly.
