"Downsize This!", Michael Moore's latest take on American corporate culture, should be required reading for anyone entering the workforce. Moore shows that Horatio Alger skipped town and moved to Mexico long ago. In this day and age,if you work hard and play by the rules, your company could relocate to the Third World, leaving you out of a job.
Moore, producer of "Roger & Me", shows why an average American scares the bejesus out of the suits running corporations and the American political system. He talks about those lazy "Welfare Mothers", corporate CEOs who fire millions of workers to boost the bottom line and shows us his Corporate Crook trading cards. (trade 'em with your friends!)
You have GOT to read his chapter on political contributions. I almost spat out my morning coffee when I read about contributions from the likes of the John Wayne Gacy fan club, Satan Worshipers for Dole and Hemp Growers of America, all dummy organizations created by Moore--and how some of the political candidates he sent checks to actually CASHED the checks. Makes ya wonder!
I also got a kick out of the chapter on Hillary Clinton, and why Mike thinks she's a babe. You'll also like the section where he has former California Congressman Bob "B-1 Bob" Dornan psycho-analyzed.
Mike exposes the stupidity in American society from all angles. If you detest spin, as I do, then run down to your local library and check this book out. Better yet, go to your local video store and rent "Roger and Me", the story of Mike's attempt to talk with GM chairman Roger Smith. You'll be glad you did!
