Common sense for a stupid America
Date of Review: Dec 21, 2000
What I like about Michael Moore is his ability to cut through the krap in society, expose it, and make me laugh about it. He never has failed me yet.
This book is from 1997, so it's a bit dated. But guess what? The stuff he points out, rightly, as being wrong with America is just as "there" as it ever was, and this book is as readable and enjoyable as when it first came out.
There are 37 chapters, each with its own topic. I hesitate to say rant. He's a kinder, gentler Dennis Miller with all the intelligence and the experience in the blue collar world to back it up.
The most important part, however, is that he's FUNNY as H*LL. Consider these chapter titles: "A Sperm's Right to Life", "Mandate? What Mandate?" and "Pagan Babies". I am sure you can find this at your local library, and I highly recommend it, but this is a great book to buy and keep to show your kids. Hopefully, America will get herself sorted out by the time they're old enough to read it, and it'll all seem a bad dream. If not, hey, at least we can laugh.
