Product Review

A True Professional

by   Urbansk8ter ,   Jul 6, 2001

Pros:  an excellent mix cd that represents a diverse group of hip hop artists

Cons:  the foxy brown track is bad

The Bottom Line:  Buy this Cd because Dj Clue has been putting together great mixtapes for years now. Also pick up his new mixtape Heve Components Part 4.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I recently bought the new DJ Clue CD because I am a really big fan of him. I loved the Professional Part 1 so I was pretty confident that Part 2 would be just as good. I was not disappointed. This is an excellent CD that has a diverse group of artists on it. Here is my track by track review of the Professional Part 2.

1. Intro by P.Diddy- This is a spoken word track on which P.Diddy pays homage to DJ Clue by praising him as a true professional. I guess this is a good way to start a CD but it just seems like filler to me.

2. Back 2 Life 2001- Mary J. Blidge with Jadakiss- This is the track that got the most airplay, The beat is tight and it is a really cool song. I wish Jadakiss had more than just one verse, but other than that this song is really good. I give it a 7 out of 10.

3. Freestyle by Jay-z- I have always been a fan of Jay-z although I have never though of him as a talented freestyler. This track is a little on the short side, but Jay-z does throw down a couple of witty lines like “I burn hot like Lisa left-eye Lopez”. I give this song a 6 out of 10.

4. Who’s Next- DMX- This song is great. DMX throws down some sick verses with his trademark style. The beat is great and Clue adds some awesome special effects. This is a great song that anyone who likes DMX will love. I give it an 8 out of 10.

5. Coming for You- Beanie Segal and Freeway- I like Beanie Segal’s verse in this song, but I have never been a Freeway fan. His voice is just too annoying for me to listen to. The beat is also way to slow for this song. I give this a 4 out of 10.

6. Fantastic Four Part 2- Cam’Ron, Lox, Nature, and Fabulous- This is by far my favorite song on the CD. Cam’Ron is the only rapper who appeared in the original Fantastic Four. The Lox and Nature are better choices in my opinion than Noreaga and Pun, but I don’t really like Faboulous’s part in this song. I wish that they had brought back canibus for a verse. Anyway, the beat is great and the Lox have the best lines for this song. I give it a 10 out of 10.

7. Getting It-Busta Rhymes and Rah Digga- I love Flipmode Squad so I figured this song would be good. The beat is a little slow so it doesn’t allow Busta to showcase his famous style for rhyming fast, but he still lays down some sick rhymes. I like Rah Digga’s verse a lot, she rhymes intelligently which is cool. This is another good song. I give it a 7 out of 10.

8. Cream 2001-Raekwon and Ghostface Killah- Everyone I know who has heard this CD just love this song. I have never been a big fan of either of these rappers. Some of the verses in this song are good although I just can’t bring myself to like this song. Ghostface is the better of the two and I like him on this song. I give it a 5 out of 10.

9. What the Beat-Method Man, Eminem, Royce the 5’9- This song is cool. The beat is good as these guys all throw down one verse. Method Man starts it off with a pretty decent verse, he has got some cool style. Eminem has the longest verse, it has his trademark funny style. You can’t take anything he says seriously. Royce the 5’9 is very talented but his verses comes up very short, but expect to hear better efforts from this guy in the future. I give it an 8 out of 10.

10. Lil’Mo Interlude- Lil’Mo sings a solo in which she praises DJ Clue as the greatest DJ. I don’t even consider this a real track, press skip on the CD player.

11. F*ck a B*&h- Snoop Dogg and Kurrupt- This song is average. Snoop Dogg definitely did not put too much effort into this song, he uses recycled lyrics. Kurrupt is good on this track, I have always been a big fan of his. I noticed in his verse he gives props to the Rocafella family, I guess there must be some connection there, but I found that interesting. 5 out of 10.

12. Change The Game Remix-Jay-z, Daz, Kurrupt, Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek- I like the original version of this song, but the addition of Kurrupt make it even better. Jay-Z has an excellent verse. Daz disappointed me but I have never been a big fan of his. Sigel and Bleek throw down good verses. If you like Kurrupt you will like this song. 8 out of 10.

13. My N*&#z Dem- Trick Daddy and Trina- Every since the song Shut Up came out I have been a big fan of Slip and Slide Records. These guys are the great as they trade verses. The format of the song reminds me of Bleek’s Do My Ladies? The beat is perfect for the song as it has that pumping bassline that is found in almost all of their songs. Trina has some good lines. 7 out of 10.

14. Live from the Bridge- Nas- I am a huge Nas fan and this song did not disappoint. He has some great rhymes in this song. The beat again is a little slow but it is all right for this song. The background sounds that Clue puts in definitely add to the song. 7 out of 10.

15. So Hot- Foxy Brown- The beat is slow and I don’t like Foxy Brown so I can barely get through this song without pressing skip. The rhymes are extremely weak and pretty normal. 2 out of 10.

16. Chinatown-Lil Kim, Junior Mafia, Lil Cease- This just an average song. I have heard much better rhymes from all of the artists involved. The beat is too slow for Lil Kim and it sounds like she had to slow down. The only bright spot is Junior Mafia, they are pretty good on this song. I give it a 4 out of 10.

17. Bathgate Freestyle- I have never heard Bathgate before this song. The beat is cool and he throws down a couple of good lines. I would like to hear more of him but he is pretty good in this song. It is way too short as the other freestyle on this album so I give it a 4 out of 10.

18. M.A.R.C.Y- Memphis Bleek and Geda H- the beat to this song is awesome and I love the chorus to the song. Bleek’s verse is great. I was very impressed with Geda H’s verse in this song. I like the fact that they threw down more than just one verse each. Clue gives a shoutout to Lavar Postell of the New York Knicks, which is cool, because he is one of my favorite players. 8 out of 10.

19. I Don’t Care-Capone & Noreaga- This song is pretty good. It is a typical song by these guys. I have been a pretty big CNN fan so I like this song. The chorus is cool and the verses are pretty good. The beat fits the song nicely. 6 out of 10.

20. The best of Queens- Mobb Deep- I love Mobb Deep. The beat is awesome for this song. I love prodigy’s verse. He has a trademark style that is great. The verses throw it down for Queens, this is a great song, and the chorus is cool too. 9 out of 10.

21. RED- Redman- Redman is crazy. The only song I have ever liked him on is the Simon says remix. That has not changed. I just don’t like his style. The beat to the song is cool and it is too bad I don’t like Redman otherwise this song would be great. If you do like Redman you will defiantly like this song. 4 out of 10.

22. Dangerous- Muggs and Lady Luck- Muggs throws down some real witty rhymes. Lady Luck is pretty good on this song to. The beat is good although I think it overshadows the verses at times. The chorus is cool and I like the different elements that Clue adds to this song.

23. Phone Patch- Ty Shaun- Shaun is a young gun in Clue’s camp. I am sure you will be hearing more from this guy. Judging from this track, this guy is pretty talented. I love how the verse song like it is being passed over a phone. The beat is awesome and if you have ever heard the Canibus DJ Clue freestyle this is the same beat. A perfect ending for a great CD. 7 out of 10.
