Coast Concert (Bobby Hackett& Jack Teagarden

I first purchased this album as an LP around 1960 when in college. I ordered it as a CD recently upon finding that it was available. I love it more now than I did even then. Every selection is really great. Listening to Bobby Hackett's solos is like listening to a mockingbird on a summer day. His tone is impeccable and the melodies are imaginative and inspired. And what can you say about Jack Teagarden! An uncle told me when I was 14 that Jack Teagarden was the greatest trombone player that ever lived. Listening to him on this album should convince anyone that this is true. A tuba is played on several of the Dixieland style selections which adds greatly to the sound. The clarinetist is superb and the rhythm section does a fantastic job. This is a truly great album of the "traditional jazz" variety. The musicians are all pros and anyone with an interest in this style of music will find it to be an outstanding album to own.

I don't care for the second album included on this CD (Jazz Ultimate). Part of it may be that I don't like "tenor saxophone" to be included in traditional jazz. But obtaining the CD just for the "Coast Concert" portion makes the purchase worthwhile.
