They Might Be Giants: Chapter One

by   minorthreat78 , top reviewer in Music at Epinions.com ,  Apr 11, 2003
Pros: Gives you a lot of great songs and is certainly unique
Cons: With 72 tracks, some of them are less than classic
The Bottom Line: A rare band willing to try something different, They Might Be Giants are truly unique. Let the gods bless them.
Review: In the beginning, there were two men named John: John Flansburgh and John Linnell. High school chums, they both moved to Brooklyn in 1981. Eventually, their oddball musical experiments led to something resembling songs, and they began performing to...

TMBG Then is wonderful for the hater of boring rock music.

by   paul505505 ,  May 7, 2001
Pros: So many tracks, so many different moods, and always stimulating in that they-might-be-giants way.
Cons: Hefty price tag.
The Bottom Line: If you isn't be mainstream, this is your next best buy HOMEY!
Review: There is nothing the Johns of They Might Be Giants can put out that will be unappreciated to me. This album though, is exactly what "God Ween Satan" is for Ween. These tracks make up a lexicon from which so much comedy, creativity, and this undefinable...

A Good Introduction to TMBG

by   Zifa ,  Mar 8, 2000
Pros: 72 toe-tapping tracks and tons of TMBG trivia in the inside booklet.
Cons: Songs have a tendency to get stuck in your head.
Review: I only had two They Might Be Giants albums, both fairly recent ones, when I decided to become a hardcore fan. So, with my record store gift certificates, I went out and bought the double CD "Then: The Early Years" for about $30.

At...

The Super Collection

by   dark_offender ,  Mar 14, 2001
Pros: Huge! Great songs. 2 whole albums + bonus tracks and cool information booklet
Cons: It will make other music sound lame by comparison
The Bottom Line: Contains first 2 Albums by TMBG and several bonus tracks not found anywhere else. Awesomely unique, creative and toe-tapping as TMBG always are.
Review: They Might Be Giants - Then: The Early Years is an awesome buy for any and all fans of They Might Be Giants. It contains 72 great tracks from thier first two albums AND several bonus tracks that can't be found anywhere else. Being music from their...

The Bonus Tracks are Worth It!

by   davidadams ,  Oct 9, 2000
Pros: Lots of never-before-heard stuff, great commentary
Cons: You're paying for the older albums again, but that's cool
Review: I've heard some people complain that this collection is just a rehash of TMBG's first three albums, but it's much more than that. Sure, the tracks include the full albums They Might Be Giants, Lincoln, and Miscellaneous T, but you...

"Then: The Early Years," The "Greatest Hits" of the Unheard Band

by   wlswarts ,  Mar 15, 2001
Pros: Two very filled c.d.s with lots of original music!
Cons: Often far too quirky
The Bottom Line: Buy if you're sick of the radio sounds! This is something completely different!
Review: They Might Be Giants is a band that has pretty much endured as an artist's dream. For almost two decades, the band has been putting out music outside the mainstream and they've survived because of two things: 1. Fans who appreciate how weird they are ...

I don't want the world...

by   tamec ,  Apr 7, 2000
Pros: Original gold of the original nerd band
Cons: Some garbage tracks
Review: Then is quite a collection. Encompassing the realm of TMBG's untainted 80's work, before 1990's Flood, both their biggest commercial success and most mainstream-oriented (and most hardcore fan-hated) album. So here we have Then, which compiles Their...
